There is no bad season to escape to the mountains, but if you want to explore Al Hamra and Jebel Shams at their most comfortable, timing your visit can make all the difference.

Set among the Hajar Mountains, Al Hamra offers a combination of historic villages, mountain landscapes and outdoor adventures. Just beyond it, Jebel Shams rises dramatically above Wadi Nakhr, offering some of Oman’s most spectacular mountain scenery.
For exploring Al Hamra, hiking around Jebel Shams and spending time outdoors, October through April is generally the most comfortable period. Temperatures are more pleasant than during the hotter summer months, making it easier to spend the day discovering the region on foot.
October and November are particularly appealing if you want warm days without the intensity of summer. As winter arrives, December through February brings cooler days and crisp mountain evenings, perfect for sitting outdoors and taking in the views.
If you're planning hikes, start early in the day. The morning light across the mountains is beautiful, while the cooler temperatures make walking much more enjoyable.
Spring brings its own charm to the Hajar Mountains. Around Jebel Akhdar, the famous Damask roses begin to bloom, while the surrounding mountains and villages offer pleasant conditions for exploring.
For visitors staying in Al Hamra, this is also a wonderful time to combine mountain adventures with visits to nearby Misfat Al Abriyyin, Al Hoota Cave and the historic streets of Al Hamra.
Summer in Oman is hot, particularly in the lower-lying areas. However, the mountains are noticeably cooler, and The View Oman sits at approximately 1,400 metres above sea level.
This makes a mountain stay an appealing way to enjoy a slower summer escape, particularly if you plan outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day and leave the afternoon for relaxing at the resort.
One of the easiest ways to experience the region is to make The View Oman your base. Located close to Al Hamra and within easy reach of Jebel Shams, the resort puts the mountains quite literally outside your door.

Spend the morning exploring ancient villages or heading towards Jebel Shams, then return to the resort for a relaxed afternoon by the infinity pool, a meal overlooking the valley or simply some uninterrupted time to enjoy the scenery.
The mountains are always there. Choose the season that suits your kind of escape and give yourself time to enjoy them slowly.
